RIKEN has been working on promoting Data Assimilation (DA) as an innovation hub connecting mathematical science, experimental/observational science, and computational science. DA connects computer simulation with real-world data and brings synergy, where errors or uncertainties in simulation and data play an essential role. Uncertainty Quantification (UQ) is a rapidly growing field in applied math, and would have close relationship with DA by concept, but the interactions have been limited so far. In this workshop, leading experts in the field of UQ will provide lectures about introduction to UQ with some scent of their frontier research, followed by round-table discussions about what UQ and DA have in common, and ideas for potential future synergies.
